For about 1 year I have joined Nature First, a movement based on seven ethical principles that empower the photographer's approach to nature. I fully share this movement, it marries my vision, ethics and photographic conception: "nature has priority over our photography and our actions must not have any environmental impact on it." As a landscape and nature photographer I can only nourish a deep love for my planet Earth. In this period of quarantine, I feel my emotional stability failing and the main causes are the lack of direct contact with nature. The quarantine from Covid19 has momentarily put an end to my photographic outputs, which I generally carry out with continuity and in total solitude between mountain and forest paths, cliffs (in autumn and winter) and streams; all places of meditation. But however terrible this period of anti-socialization may seem, the Earth has resumed, even if not completely enough, to breathe; Air pollution levels from nitrogen dioxide have plummeted in some countries, which results in less pollution. It is nothing compared to the disaster that man has created with his selfishness over the centuries and the road ahead is long and all uphill, but it is a step on which to start thinking. There is a need to arm yourself with common sense, spreading the cult of nature and respect for the environment in modern society.
As always I have written, I have always had a territorial photographic approach, this has allowed me to be in close contact with nature for a long time, in all seasons and weather conditions, avoiding movements of hundreds and thousands of kilometers. This approach, technically and artistically composed mainly of a constant search for details in the landscape, has created and modeled my photographic style over time, which expresses my feelings in an intimate and introspective way. In this period of time I have visited and documented lesser known places of my land Calabria (Italy) and made sure that they were appreciated through my photos.
This will probably be the future approach (temporary or definitive only time will tell) of many photographers, who with the precautions and slow bureaucratic recovery of many airlines, will be forced to adopt a territorial style, an excellent excuse to know in depth their places and give life to new photographic projects always keeping in mind the naturalistic ethics, which comes first of all. All this will limit travel and air travel as much as possible, which unfortunately have a high pollution rate (flying produces 285 grams of CO2 per passenger and per kilometer traveled. A car produces 42 per passenger per kilometer) and at the same time will also be more satisfying. I'm probably looking too far, but for many it could be a turning point and for others a starting point. I conclude my reflection by wishing to see a glimmer of light at the bottom of the tunnel, a brighter future for our beloved Earth that needs to breathe deeply after years of freediving; we make our home a hospitable place for generations to come.

Da circa 1 anno ho aderito a Nature First, movimento basato su sette principi etici che responsabilizzano l'approccio del fotografo verso la natura. Condivido appieno questo movimento, si sposa con la mia visione, etica e concezione fotografica: ''la natura ha la priorità sulla nostra fotografia e le nostre azioni non devono aver alcun impatto ambientale su di essa.''
Da fotografo di paesaggi e natura non posso che nutrire un profondo amore verso il mio pianeta Terra. In questo periodo di quarantena, sento venir meno la mia stabilità emotiva e tra le cause principali c'è la mancanza di contatto diretto con la natura. La quarantena da Covid19 ha momentaneamente messo fine alle mie uscite fotografiche, che generalmente svolgo con continuità ed in totale solitudine tra sentieri montani e boschivi, scogliere (in autunno ed inverno) e corsi d'acqua; tutti luoghi di meditazione.
Ma per quanto possa sembrare terribile questo periodo di anti-socializzazione, la Terra ha ripreso, anche se non in maniera del tutto sufficiente, a respirare; i livelli di inquinamento atmosferico da biossido di azoto sono crollati in alcuni paesi, che si traduce in meno inquinamento. E' nulla in confronto al disastro che l'uomo ha creato con il suo egoismo nei secoli e la strada da fare è lunga e tutta in salita, ma è un passo su cui iniziare a riflettere. Si sente il bisogno di armarsi di buon senso, diffondendo nella società moderna il culto per la natura e rispetto ambientale.
Da sempre, come ho scritto altre volte, ho un approccio fotografico territoriale, questo mi ha permesso di stare a stretto contatto con la natura per diverso tempo, in tutte le stagioni e condizioni metereologiche, evitando spostamenti di centinaia e migliaia di chilometri. Questo mio approccio, tecnicamente e artisticamente composto principalmente da una costante ricerca di dettagli nel paesaggio, ha creato e nel tempo modellato il mio stile fotografico, che esprime in forma intima ed introspettiva i miei sentimenti. In questo arco di tempo ho visitato e documentato luoghi meno conosciuti della mia terra Calabria (Italia) e fatto sì che venissero apprezzati attraverso le mie foto.
Probabilmente questo sarà l'approccio futuro (temporaneo o definitivo lo dirà solo il tempo) di molti fotografi, che con le precauzioni e la lenta ripresa burocratica di molte compagnie aeree, saranno costretti ad adottare uno stile territoriale, ottima scusa per conoscere in maniera approfondita i propri luoghi e dare vita a nuovi progetti fotografici tenendo sempre in mente l'etica naturalistica, che viene prima di ogni cosa. Tutto ciò limiterà quanto più possibile viaggi e spostamenti aerei, che purtroppo hanno un tasso elevato di inquinamento (volare produce 285 grammi di CO2 per ogni passeggero e per ogni chilometro percorso. Un'auto ne produce 42 per passeggero per ogni chilometro) ed allo stesso tempo sarà anche più soddisfacente. Probabilmente sto guardando troppo oltre, ma potrebbe per molti essere un punto di svolta e per altri un punto di inizio.
Concludo la mia riflessione augurando di vedere uno spiraglio di luce in fondo al tunnel, un futuro più roseo per la nostra amata Terra che ha bisogno di respirare profondamente dopo anni di apnea; rendiamo la nostra casa un luogo ospitale per le generazioni che verranno.
