"A Naca" - Catanzaro

The Good Friday procession, famously called in Catanzaro dialect 'A Naca', is a much-awaited event among the inhabitants of the city of Catanzaro, who punctually for over 4 centuries gather in the streets of the historic centre, believers and not, welcoming with the same emotion the parade of the various covens. Why call it 'A Naca'?

Originally, it was the representatives of the various guilds of the trades to carry and lead a naca with a rocking motion, hence the name 'A Naca' / annacare / which in dialect means rocking.
